Here is a list of tools & materials I use that are helpful for getting started in block printing, along with links to where you can find them. Hope this is helpful!

Image Transfer

Saral Graphite Paper or any transfer graphite brand

Brayers

Speedball soft rubber brayer in assorted sizes

Paper

For handprinting, a paper that is thinner with less tooth is easiest for me to print with, but experiment with what works for you.

Some of the ones I have used are masa paper, kozo paper, and french paper (text weight).

Linocut & Woodcut blocks

I prefer unmounted battleship gray or golden-cut linoleum sold in flat sheets.

I use 1/4”+ birch ply from any home improvement store for large prints, but shina plywood is much easier to work with.

Carving tools

Speedball Linoleum Cutters (There are much fancier ones, but this is still my go to most of the time. Old habits die hard.)

Pfiel Carving tools (the fancier ones)

Power Grip hand gouges for woodcuts (link is an example, but a search will pull up various sizes and sets)

Printing tools

I use a good rounded wooden kitchen spoon to hand print, but you can also use a baren or invest in a woodzilla.

Inks & Additives

Cranfield Caligo Safe Wash Relief Ink (oil based, soap and water cleanup)

Cranfield Traditional Relief Ink (oil based, solvent cleanup)

Gamblin Burnt Plate Oil (for thinning ink)

Cranfield Caligo Safe Wash Ink Extender (for thinning ink)

Ink Cleanup

Citrasolv Natural Citrus Cleaner (to clean tools, inking area, and linoleum blocks. I do not recommend using this to clean pink easy carve linoleum)

Fast Orange or Gojo brands pumice hand cleaner to remove ink from hands.
